Geocachers have been disappearing without a trace in the
woods of Ottawa. Most of them were looking for caches West of
Green’s Creek. Late at night, drivers on the 174 have
reported strange lights in the woods. There is an old legend
that a witch used to leave in the area in the early days of
Bytown. She is known as the Blair Road Witch.
During a forensic analysis of the GPS owned by the last cacher
that vanished, police found waypoints. I know for a fact that the
individual was placing a cache in the area. I warned him, but he
didn’t listen to me.
I
never had the courage to go there. Your mission is to find the
Blair Road Witch before someone else disappears.
A good place to park is at the
mall across the golf course. The NCC trailhead is at N45 25.687 W75
36.031. All the waypoints are only at a few meters of the main
trail. Reflectors have been added on the trees of the waypoints and
close to the cache to help the ones brave enough to do it at night.
Hold your flash light at eye level 10 to 20 meters before the WP
for the highest visibility. The reflectors are at 6' to 7' from the
ground and the tags are all easy to find. The cache can be done at
any time of the day or night. But way more fun at night. Hope you
will comeback from that one.
