Geocache Description:

As you stroll through Burnidge Forest Preserve/Paul Wolff Campground Park and near ground zero, look uphill from the asphalt path and set your imagination a-wandering … perhaps you’ll see a ghostly character, its empty eyes following your every move.

Forewarned is forearmed … and we’re telling you that shorts and flip-flops definitely are the wrong attire for this hunt! Thorns, thorns and more thorns seemingly in all directions might make snowshoes, in any and every season, your footwear of choice.

Up through the bushes and scrub and icky stuff you go to hunt a regular-sized (7” high and 6-1/2” in diameter) plastic container … camo-painted and full of lots of goodies and trading trinkies.

On the hunt, please be considerate of cachers who will follow you … We suggest that you trade fairly (golf balls, wrinkled Monopoly money, pocket lint, bottle caps and broken stuff are not trading items) and that you take a moment to re-seal the container properly (designed to keep liquids in and out, it closes securely) and to re-conceal it at least as well as you found it.

Since 1969, when the first acres were acquired by Kane County, Burnidge Forest Preserve/Paul Wolff Campground Park has grown to over 600 acres. Currently, Burnidge/Wolff is the largest preserve in the Kane County system. Amenities galore … tent and trailer camping, equestrian and walking trails (14 miles of them!), picnic areas and pavilions, port-o-lets, a stocked fishing pond … and it seems to be a popular place for dog-owners to bring their four-legged charges for a bit of on-leash exercise.

Enjoy the hunt … and your outing to this huge and pristine preserve!
