For years I have lamented the lack of squirrels
around my place (that is, until this year). In the last few months
the playful rodents have appeared out of nowhere and descended upon
my oak tree with a vengeance. They shimmy out onto the outermost
limbs and snip the ends off so that the nut-laden branches fall to
the ground where they can start plucking the nuts off of them and
burying them secretly several inches away. It hurts to walk on my
grass now!
Last week I cleaned up and had a bucket full of
nuts. Since the squirrels kept rudely knocking over Eugene, the 2nd
front Garden Gnome, I decided he needed a vacation, so I took him,
and the nuts, and I stuck them in the forest to guard a
geocache.
When you attempt the cache feel free to bush wack
in (lots of pointy branches!), but personally I find it a bit
easier to walk to the trailhead and proceed to the cache from the
bridge. The trailhead starts at:
N 45°26.708 W 075°34.634.
Good luck finding the cache, and when you do! Don't touch that
Gnome's Nuts!
