Geocache Description:

A traditional cache near the edge of the Spruce Coulee Reservoir.

This cache is part of a series called A Day in the Hills. This series involves a fair amount of hiking. If you complete the entire series you will walk on every major trail out of the Spruce Coulee Reservoir Campground which is a tent only campground, full facility camping is available in Elkwater. Bring your own firewood to this campground, none is supplied and using wood found nearby is against park rules. No bushwhacking is required. The caches in this series include the Streamside geocache, the Cypress Hills Massif Earthcache, the Spruce Coulee geocache, the Wild Raspberry geocache and Treeduck.

This cache is a stand alone walk, it is a good warmup hike for the series and the most difficult of the geocaches to find on all the walks in A Day in the Hills . Treeduck cannot be combined in a loop with any of the other caches. If you want a challenging find, do not use the hint. This is a 2 km round trip from the Spruce Coulee Reservoir Campground on the Lakeside Trail. The Lakeside Trail does suffer from some shoreline erosion and the trail is very close to the lake in places so caution is advised, the park authorities have posted this caution on the trail.

If you come and visit this cache at the right time of year you can see the ducks that live in these trees along the shore. The damage you can see to the upper branches is caused by ducks roosting and using these tall trees to launch fish dives into the lake. This cache is located less than six feet from the trail. This cache can be seen, there is no need to disturb the hillside below the trail or any vegetation or deadfall. Read the clue carefully.

This cache is a small Lock n Lock.

Please rehide the cache in the same spot, the next seeker is depending upon that to complete their search successfully. Please write about your visit on www.geocaching.com.

When setting up A Day in the Hills, this cache was placed first.
