This cache is hidden on a section of the North Country Trail that runs through the Allegheny National Forest. I have placed this cache in memory of my mother, Dolores, who use to walk this section with my father. I adopted this section of trail, and walk it regularly. When I asked about adopting this section, the then-president of the Allegheny National Forest Chapter of the NCT told me about “Welikhannah”, an Indian name for “whispering pines”. These pines are truly a beautiful and peaceful area.
Approximately 100 feet up this trail from where you begin on Rt. 6, there is a box for hikers to sign a log book. The coordinates listed are for this box. Please sign the log book also. Inside the box, you will find the coordinates for the second clue cache. The second cache is hidden in a film container, and will contain the coordinates for the final cache, which is an ammo box. Behind the log book in this box, there is also a list of nearby caches. If you have time, you can do them also.
Although I mention that the second clue is in a film container, what is the film container in? That will be the hard part of this cache. Please place this one back as you found it. You’ll see why once you find it.
This is a busy section of Rt. 6, so please be careful crossing the road. If my speedometer is correct, the parking spot is approximately 5.5 miles from the hospital in Kane, or a little over a mile from the entrance to Wildcat Park in Ludlow. If you have the coordinates in your GPS, you can’t miss it. Also, there’s a sign for the North Country Trail.
