Geocache Description:

For more than 85 years Sønderborg has been connected to Dybbøl with King Christian X’s bridge.

Billede af broen

Dansk

English
On October 7. 1930 the bridge was opened by King Christian X. The regent, who 10 years earlier had become very popular in the region of Sønderjylland by during the reunion ceremony to have crossed the border on a white horse, in the area was known by the nickname Kette Kryds (Chris Cross).

Before King Christian X’s bridge Sønderborg was connected to Dybbøl by a ponton bridge. To cross the bridge, with exception of Sundays during church service, you had to pay a fee. This led to heavy traffic in these hours, causing the people on Als to refer to the other side of Alssund as "the holy side".

You log your visit by uploading an image made with the web-camera on the bridge. You can make an appointment with a friend, that you can call by cell phone, when you are on the bridge. Your friend can open vejeogtrafik.dk, right click the image and select "save as". The image usually changes, when you update the browser.

Walk on the left side at the bridge from Als towards "the holy side". Get as close to the camera as posible, in honor of Kette Kryds, stand in an X position (jumping jack) and have your picture made. The submitted photo must be the original photo downloaded from the webcam, without any modification.

Image of a exclamation mark
