The "First Rving And Caching Event" 1/9/06 thru 1/11/06
This is a 3 day caching event focusing on, but not limited to, the RVers that come to the Yuma area every winter.
Times for the event are Mon 9am, Tues 8am and Wed 9am
The first day will be getting together, socializing, meeting the rest of your RACE team, and placing caches. We are planning a campfire that evening. This is a bring everything campfire - chairs as well - there will be nothing supplied.
We also need a little firewood - any volunteers
TeamR has agreed to host the campfire - coords are: 32 50.110 114 49.782 - Hint - Think between MT and ID
We are planning on placing numerous caches in the Yuma area – we are requesting no urban caches – but rather desert caches so as to expose people to the beautiful Arizona desert. We request that they be placed within a 15 mile radius of the event
The local Yuma cachers have set a very high standard for their caches – so we are going compliment them by attempting to place unique and interesting caches. We welcome and expect the local cachers to be there, but urge they not participate in the placing of the caches. (besides some of them are too devious:))However we have, under pressure, agreed to let them place a cache as Team Yuma (seems they have a special one). However we do expect them to participate in finding the caches.
Since most of us at the event will be from other areas of the country – we bring to this event a broad background of caches from all over the United States. This is a forum to create that special, unique or ingenious cache – or create one like that special one back home.
Regular caching teams that choose to participate in this event together, and form a “RACE” Team can let us know when you log in. Just list the teams you want to cache with – suggest that you limit it to 5 – 6 people. The other RACE Teams will be formed prior to the start of the event – and notified who your team members are. Please let us know how many of there will be of you - that way we can properly assign you to a RACE Team. Teams that come for the second day only will assigned to an existing RACE team or form a new RACE team.
Each RACE Team (made up of 2 regular teams or 4 - 5 people) will be given the opportunity of placing a cache – either a regular or micro, or placing that special cache they have brought along to the event. It is suggested that the individual teams attempt to coordinate who/how and what type of cache they will be hiding and who will bring it. This should be done prior to the event (We will have some micros for those teams that do not bring a pre-made cache)> The RACE team will decide on where and what type of cache this will be(regular, offset, mystery or boring). Later that afternoon they will return the paperwork with the hint, name of cache and coordinates. Do you get the idea that there will be some team caching?
It will be the responsibility of each team to log this cache with geocaching.com, should it be recommended that it be left in place (see below for details).
There will be 2 types of caches
#1 – permanent cache – standard –in order for this type of cache to be placed – one of the team members must be a local cacher or a regular in Yuma during the winter season. We do not want to orphan any caches. For this type of cache to be placed it must conform to all the rules and guidelines of geocaching.com
#2 – temporary cache – this cache will be removed prior to the team leaving the Yuma area. This could be quite creative and has no guidelines.
If the above guidelines are followed we will not leave any orphaned caches behind.
The second day is CACHING DAY. The RACE teams will each be given paperwork where the other caches are and charged with finding as many as they can. More team caching. All teams will return by 4 pm for a potluck and story telling. RACE Teams will turn in their caching sheets indicating which caches they have found and how they have rated them.
The potluck will take place at Arizona Sands – see below
Caches will be rated by the RACE teams on the sheets they are supplied
1 point – ok – so it’s a cache – big deal
2 points – pretty good – but I could have done better
3 points – not too shabby – wish I would have thought of that
4 points – very good – this team knows how to cache
5 points – wow – didn’t even think of that – brilliant
The event will meet at Arizona Sands RV Park – 928 726 0160
5510 E. 32nd St
Yuma
arizonasandsrvpark.com
Day 3 is wind down day – we will meet again at Arizona Sands – review results and award prizes for:
- best cache based on average points (min 6 finds)
- most caches found - or first in with all found
- overall team winner - most points
It is not necessary for you to stay at Arizona Sands – all accommodations are up to the individual cacher.
We anticipate many of the RVers will be boondocking and we hope to schedule the campfire at their coordinates.
Each RACE team will be rated by the following system:
No. of caches with points awarded being the average rating of the caches they have found
RACE Teams will lose one half point per cache should they elect to use the hint
RACE Teams will be penalized 1 point for every 5 minutes past the 4 pm arrival time
The team with the highest points wins. Prizes are still to be determined.
Since this is first time for us, we are open to all suggestions on making this a fun and challenging event.
We plan on raffling off various items - so if you care to donate something - just bring it along
