Geocache Description:

Come and Explore the WGAW AM 1340 Listening Area in North Central Massachusetts
Geocachers will find a multitude of caches spread thoughout North Central Massachusetts in many different historic and scenic areas.


This Geo-Meet was organized by local geocachers with the cooperation of and promotional support by the staff of Radio Station WGAW...AM 1340, located in Gardner, MA. Geocachers of all experience levels participated in this all-day event on Saturday, November 19th, 2005. Coffee and doughnuts were provided during the registration hour compliments of Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins of New Athol Road, in Athol, MA.

Tournament Statistics

There were 30 caches to find, 16 traditional (container with log) and 14 virtual (gather information only) placed for the event with a variety of difficulty levels. In addition to the 30 defined caches, there were three "On Air Virtuals". Information for these caches was mentioned repeatedly on the airwaves of WGAW- AM 1340 and WCAT- AM 700 during the event. Bonus points were added to an individual's or team's score if the correct answer was provided. Eleven (11) new caches were added to the 295 pre-existing caches in the footprint. (see map below).

Total Possible Points 885, Cache Finds (650), First to Finds (185), Bonus (50)
It would be impossible to be the FTF on all 17 Caches. Taking this into consideration, an "Optimum" score might be 730. Congratulations to Team "MooseRedden", Moose-r-Us and Mredden.

The WGAW listening area "Footprint" extends from Mt. Monadnock to Mt. Wachusett and includes many state parks, conservation areas and historic sites. Local area businesses and corporate sponsors donated gift certificates and prizes to be awarded to geocachers with the highest point scores.
Many Thanks to those sponsors who donated prizes.

Members of the oganizing committee include Spencer Marshall, host of The WGAW Morning Show, Jode and Bigrock95. KT1I placed a new cache to coincide with the event. Jode's "Bears Den II and Srt4guy's "Coin Swap Cache were added to the event as well.
