Background
Chinese astrology is based on five elements: Wind, Water,
Earth, Metal and Fire. The Chinese also count five basic types
of taste: salt, sweet, sour, peppery and bitter. If you want to
serve a fine Chinese dinner, you should select five
different types of meat with five different sorts of
seasonings. In short; in China, all good things come in
five.
The hunt
With this multi cache, I will bring you to five locations
that were chosen with extra special care, so that each is
associated with one of the five mentioned elements. I also
tried to find some rather unusual locations.
The given coordinates will bring you to a location associated
with the element of Wind. At that position, you will find a
laminated card measuring 8 * 11 cm. On the card, you can read the
element and coordinates of the next location, as well as a part of
the coordinates of the actual cache.
At the following four locations, you will find similar
clue-cards, and it is most likely that you need to find all the
clues at all five elements in order to locate the stash. The stash
is hidden at a sixth position, which, if anything, is only
associated with the element of surprise.
Note that the order of the elements in the cache is not
the order shown on this page!
Some of the locations are easy to reach, some are challenging,
but all but one of the laminated cards are fully visible - if you
only can find the right point of view.
Extra details
When you have found one or more locations, the next location is
always located within a distance of less than 5 km (3 miles) from
one of the previously visited positions. The total distance to
travel from the start, past all elements and to the stash is less
than 25 km (15 miles). You will most likely need to spend at least
two hours to complete this cache, and a motorized vehicle will come
in very handy. You may also need some more or less special
equipment.
If you are afraid or unsure of heights, darkness, spiders, ants,
ticks, mosquitoes, snakes, rodents, birds, getting dirty, wet,
cold, scratched or bruised, then you should reconsider going on
this Geocache hunt, since you are guaranteed to have to face at
least a few of the mentioned things on this hunt. This is a
promise, not a threat! I faced all but five of the mentioned things
when hiding the cache...
Special guidelines to observe!
Since this is a quite special cache, you are kindly requested to
follow the general rules of Geocaching plus three additional
rules:
- Refrain from putting tiny, cheap or silly items in the stash.
Hunters probably do not like to be awarded with toys from Kinder
Eggs, figures from cereal boxes or trinkets from McDonalds when
they complete this treasure hunt. Travelling Bugs should be OK. It
is also best to pack your item in a watertight bag.
- Refrain from putting candy, food or perfumed items in the
stash. Such things easily get spoiled by weather and time, and they
also attract animals.
- Hide the stash as good as you can! This may prove tricky when
there is snow, but please try!
The stash
The stash container measures approximately 50 litres (13 US
gallons). It originally contained the following items:
- geocache letters, log book and pencils
- an unused T-shirt from Iceland, size XL
- an unused T-shirt from Iceland, size 10 - 12 years
- an unused DVD with a TV-series
- a pair of used sun glasses
- a used Geocache-cap
- a small flash light
- a toy space ship
