This cache is located in a small South Island town on the main highway.
The location is close to the northernmost reach of a discontinuous row of windswept oak trees which extends along the main trunk railway line for approximately 50 kilometres to Morven in the South. We have been intrigued by the presence of these trees for several years. Who planted them and why? Our hypothesis is that they were planted during the Depression years of the 1920s by work gangs from Timaru, in an effort to provide work and beautify the area. If anyone has a more definitive answer we would appreciate hearing from you.
When hidden this cache contained a pair of cufflinks, a paua shell ring, a 10 Euro Cent Dutch coin and the usual logging paraphenalia. It is hidden in a black-painted screwtop handcream container.
