Flume Trail: Spring Creek Loop Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

Acid Rain: I decided to archive this one today and reuse the container for a different cache. There's a nice multi that goes around this loop anyway.

Geocache Description:

A letterbox hybrid on the Spring Creek Loop of the Flume Trail.

The cache is a traditional cache with a "spring" creek letterbox stamp inside. The cache is almost 1/4 around the loop, so if you have time and energy, you can double your hike by hiking the entire loop (3.8 miles). Parking can be found at the Boulder Hill Trailhead. Look for a sign at the southeast edge of the parking lot.

The loop follows the same flume bed that connected Rockerville to Sheridan Lake for a gold mining operation. They needed the water to seperate the gold from the other sediments. Mystery 1: This part of the trail is a puzzle to me. At times it seems like the flume bed is going up hill when it should be going downhill. The water was directed towards Rockerville. I wonder if the flume instead was
raised above the rocks and then leveled out with timbers to
maintain the right slope. See if the bed slope looks wrong to you. Mystery 2: The most efficient route is a straight line. So why does the loop go so far out of the way. Seems like an engineering mistake to me, but maybe there is another reason. If you have any ideas, feel free to post them when you log your find.

Don't forget to bring your personal letterboxing stamp, stamp pad, and log book if you have them! The box does not have an ink pad in it. If you're not familiar with letterboxing, you need to know that the stamp is not a trade item and stays with the cache.
