Geocache Description:

Have your geocaching habits cut into your golf time?
Have you ever wished you could still golf after the snow flies?
Have the shortened daylight hours made it impossible to enjoy golfing after work?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then GEO-GOLF is for you!

PLEASE NOTE: This cache has been re-worked to eliminate the ‘projected cursor function’ that prevented some geocachers from being able to work this cache. Now the coordinates are given in a traditional manner so that any GPS will work for this cache.

Some modern golf courses have GPS units in their golf carts to show the player how far it is to the flag. Well, this isn’t that, but similar. You will set your GPS to find the series of “flags” to lead you to the 9th “hole” and the location of an ammo box of golf goodies. In it, you will find golf balls, tees, ball markers, stroke counters, divot tools, etc. Some holes are not accessible by a straight route and require you to “dog leg” to them. Others will have water hazards and bunkers so watch your step!
Now for the fun!
The above coordinates will take you to the “Tee box”. Hidden there you will find a small, red, plastic, coffee can with scorecards inside. Take one and write the time on it. Please leave the pencil for the next person to use; you won’t need it. The scorecard lists the names of the nine holes and their yardages. You will also find a small metal tag with partial coordinates to Hole # 1 etched on it. All locations have the same beginning so only the last part of the coordinate is on the tag. Enter these new coordinates into your GPS and go to that position to find a brown, triangular, metal “flag” about 7” X 10” with a yellow number 1 on it. That’s the first hole. You will also find another metal tag attached to the flag with coordinates of the second hole. Hint: Save the position you are at just in case you get lost and need to return to check your numbers. Proceed in this manner until you find the number 9 flag. There you will find an ammo box with a logbook and trading items. Sign the logbook with your name and your score. What’s your score? Since there aren’t any “strokes” to count, your score is the amount of time it takes to get from the tee box to the ninth hole. Post your time in the logbook and on the web page when you register your find to see how yours compares to others’. I worked the course after setting it up and determined the par for the course to be 1 hr. 15 minutes. Can you beat that?

Hints: 1. The hole “name” is a hint to where to look for the flag. 2. Mark each flag’s waypoint in case you need to backtrack a hole. The ninth hole tends to cause signal bounce, hence the “Bluff”. Be patient and allow the GPS to settle down.
OK, Got it? Good!
Now if you think that sounds too easy, try doing it in the dark! That’s right, the flags are all numbered with yellow reflective tape and will shine in a flashlight beam. I worked this one in the dark and the flag numbers really stand out! If you decide to try this after dark, I would suggest allowing more time (add 1/2 hour to par) and wearing low boots in case you step into a water hazard! Lastly, please Be Careful, this can be rugged terrain! Don’t sprain an ankle!

GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN GEO-GOLFING!
