This cache is hidden by the old Visitor Info Centre at the south end of Vernon, B.C. on Highway 97.
The info centre has relocated to our other cache -- Welcome Visitors, but you will find good info on the nearby signage.
There are numerous points of interest near this cache. If you have the time, check them out.
The sculpture called “Legacy” by Bryan Ryley and Doug Alcock, was built and donated to commemorate the centennial of the Incorporation of the City of Vernon 1892-1992.
At the small wooden shelter, you can read about the interesting and colourful ranching history that shaped the North Okanagan community since the 1860’s, highlighting Coldstream Ranch and O’Keefe Ranch. “Gold originally lured men west, but bunchgrass enticed them to settle.” There is also a section titled Integrated Forest Resource Management to read. A great section called Explore a Forest shows a map of different hiking trails in the North Okanagan.
The rock cairn honours the late Don Campbell who was an Alderman and MLA for Okanagan North before his death in 1984.
There’s a BC point of interest sign about the Vernon Military Camp across the highway from here. Started in 1908, Mission Hill, B.C.’s largest military camp, trained soldiers who fought around the world in two world wars.
And if you’re wanting to know even more about this area, you can read the sign posted on the Kalamalka Forestry Centre fence which borders the entranceway, telling about what this Centre does.
Sorry that the Visitor Info Centre is not there anymore, but you have to keep driving until you reach 39 Avenue and turn right and go down a block.
