Geocache Description:

Nice little spot on Boiler Beach. Make sure to take the time to check out the boiler and the plaque commemorating this historic wreck.

At 3:30 PM on November 21, 1883, the tug ERIE BELLE blew up just off the coast of this beach. It was on its way to rescue the J.N. CARTER which had become beached. The tug was engaged in working the CARTER free when the boiler exploded, throwing most of her crew into the lake. 4 men were killed in the explosion. The day after the explosion, the hulk of the ERIE BELLE drifted ashore and fell to pieces. The boiler remains on the beach to this day, as a lasting monument to an event which was all too common in the 1800s.

Please be careful when retrieving this cache, as it's a bit tricky to remove, but don't force it. And make sure it's well hidden again when you're finished. Contents are items we brought with us from San Antonio, Texas in a decon container.

Items include:
Texas Geocoin for the FTF
3x keychains
1 Texas quarter
1 "Don't Mess With Texas" coin purse.

11/28/2022: Our cache has been changed in size, location, and hiding method by a past cacher, so it currently doesn't fit the original intention and (somewhat) the hint. We'd appreciate being contacted to get it fixed up correctly since we won't be able to travel to fix it for some months. Thanks!
