This is a well used foot trail in the Marshall Swamp area of the Florida Greenway. Typical cache filled with kids stuff.
This is the first cache we put out and it can be easily found. This is a swamp area, so we didn't want to make it to hard. It is near a picnic table, so you could pack a light lunch, but go heavy on the insect repellant. Bring plenty of water.
There are two ways to access this cache. You can start at the Marshall Swamp Traihead located off of HWY 314, aka Sharpes Ferry Road, east of Baseline. While there, check out the caches left by Brother Zatoichi near the trailhead. Coordinates are about 1.2 miles away as the crow flys, probably over two miles walking.
Another way in, and probably closer, is the Cross Florida Greenway Trailhead located in the north end of the shores. Take SE 64 Ave Rd. north of Maricamp Rd. to the end. The Marshall Swamp trailhead is about 500 ft. from the parking area. While in this area check out a cache by another Brother Team 2 Moody. Starting from this area may be a little confusing. There are many different foot trails, old fire lines and service truck paths. Just try to remember you want to head north and east of the beginning. There will be a part where you end up on a service road. Just remember the name of the cache and you will see what I mean.
The beginning of both trails will be in sand pine/scrub land. Both lead to the Marshall swamp area. It can get pretty nasty with all sorts of biting insects during certain times of the year. Plan accordingly.
You can plan your day several ways.
1. Start at one end, to the cache and return. Good for young kids that like to walk.
2. Start at one end, hit the cache, go all the way to other end and back. Makes for a good hike. Not really for the young ones.
3. Plan ahead with friends and leave a van at one end and start at the other. Driving time between points should be 10-15 mins. There is a nice picnic area at the HWY 314 trailhead. Older kids should fair well. Probably about a good 3 mile hike.
