This area was named after Lord Lansdowne, an official from London, in the 1830s.
This cache is located with the Lansdowne Reserve Bike Circuit, a site commonly used by cycling teams for training and known for its bushwalking and cross-country tracks. The history of the park is connected to the Lansdowne Bridge, (Hume Highway,north-west of the cache), which was built by David Lennox and opened in 1836. The land where the cache is situated was originally owned by George Bass of "Bass and Flinders" fame.
