Geocache Description:

We put in our canoes at the Furys Ferry Boat Landing (N 33 degrees 35.869 minutes, W 082 degrees 07.004 minutes). This landing is on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River off SR 28 (Furys Ferry Rd).

Turn east 1.77 miles north of the Georgia state line onto Hopewell Church Road (SR S-33-112). The road to the boat ramp is the first on the right and is clearly marked. Travel down river (SE) about four miles past Griffin Island and travel North West back upriver on the north side of Griffin toward a small island (around an acre) between Griffin Island and the South Carolina shore with a noticeable stand of trees (see the image labeled Screwtop's Island). The cache is on this island.

Be prepared for snakes; we placed this cache in early October and only saw one, but I’m sure that in summer the island must teem with them.

If you put in at the Furys Ferry Boat Ramp, plan four or five hours (with lunch) for this cache. We had lunch on a small island on the Georgia side of the river (N 33 degrees 34.623 minutes, W 082 degrees 04. 998 minutes). We were treated to the sight of a bald eagle hunting on the river as we lunched.

Due to shallow water, I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than a jon boat for this trip.
