Geocache Description:

It’s time again for the fifth annual TC Winter Convergence, the longest running annual geocaching event in the country!

Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the great Northern Michigan winter outdoors. It's a chance to swap geocaching stories around the campfire, eat some great food, and do some geocaching in the snow!

Debuting at this years event will be the official 5 year TC Convergence Geocoin! Full details about the TC Winter Convergence Geocoin.

Time: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM or beyond
Date: Saturday, January 21, 2006
Place: SE of Traverse City, follow your GPSr to the coordinates above.
Lunch: 1:00 PM
Cost: FREE! - But donations would be appreciated to help defray costs.
Door Prize Drawing: 2:30 PM

Bring your chairs, snowshoes, a bundle of wood for the fire**, and all your geocaching stories. Oh yeah, don't forget your GPSr and extra batteries. Be sure to dress for the weather... cold and snowy. Last year was the coldest event to date with single digit temps all day.

The "Dead Animal Hat Club" will be in attendance so if you have a dead animal hat... wear it!

Actually, the coordinates above are for the trailhead parking lot of the Muncie Lakes Pathway located in the Pere Marquette State Forest, the same location as previous year's event. There will be several new caches placed within snow shoeing distance in time for event day, and several more already in place within a short driving distance. There is a primitive outhouse at the parking lot, but NO running water or heat!

The lunch menu will include my world famous chili, hot french fries, fresh home made bread, hot dogs, chips, cookies, and hot chocolate. All food will be provided again this year but to help cover the cost, a $2.00 per adult donation would be appreciated.

There will be a "Guess the Number of M&M's” game with 1st place winner having their choice of item from the prize table. If there is a tie, a random drawing will determine the winner. Each attendee will receive 1 FREE ticket at registration, additional tickets can be purchased at 1 for $1 / 7 for $5 / 15 for $10. Keep one half of your ticket, write your guess on the other half and drop it in the collection jar. After the winner has selected their prize, the remaining tickets from the jar will be used to hand out the door prizes. The drawing will be held promptly at 2:30 PM, you must be present to win. Donations for the prize table are welcome!.

"What a great way to kick off a new year! This could be the best event of the season, and we never again want to miss one. Do you think we had a good time? Thanks to Ray and Jeanette and everyone else who helped with this gathering."

"It is the most fun you'll ever have with your.........winter clothes on. All of them, long johns included. And two pairs of socks and a face mask, you will meet a lot of people but will never be quite sure what they look like! The buns for the hot dogs will freeze before you can eat them but the chili will sure warm you up. It is a blast."

"This was our second TCWC and we enjoyed this as much as, or more than, the first. Thanks to ABXGuy&Gal. We appreciate all the work that goes into organizing this fun event. Enjoyed chatting with our geo friends and meeting many new (to us) cachers, including the "legends" who have been caching for a lot longer than us. We got to trudge around in the woods (without snowshoes this year) chow down on delicious chili, dogs, fries, & cakes, and stayed warm by the fire with the friendly geo-group. We even won a GREAT prize this year made by Crafter Cat. Thanks!"

"First convergence for "Just Us"! Not the last. Really enjoyed the day. ABXGuy and wife really know how to throw a party. Thanks ever so much for all your work. Two days of cachin' and a bunch of great people - what else could we ask for?"

Be sure to spread the word about the TC Winter Convergence. Hope to see you all there and be sure to put this cache on your watch list!

** - Because of the firewood movement quarantine to prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer, it is advised to buy a bundle of firewood locally.
