Geocache Description:

King Arthur is said to have received his legendary sword, Excalibur, by being the only one able to pull it from the massive rock in which it was embedded. The sword served him well as king, but when he died, the sword was thrown into a lake, from which a strange hand drew it below, from where it has not been seen…until now.

Thanks to a secret, archeological expedition, the final resting place of this historical sword has been discovered. This team of archeologists has many theories that explain why it is here and what it can be used for in the future. One theory claims that this magical sword is the key to unlocking the mysterious door that is carved into the rock, found not too far from the sword. This doorway is believed to transport one from the current realm of existence to the time of King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable.

The more popular of the theories state that if one looks westward through the eye of the sword, they will find the treasure of King Arthur and his knights. When we went to this location we were unable to see anything, but perhaps you are the chosen one and you will be able to uncover the King’s treasure by looking through the eye of the sword.

Park only at N39 41.789 W105 11.540, not on any road or highway. Crossing the meadow of grass, be careful of the summer protectors of the door -- ticks and snakes in the summer, the mighty winds and snow in the winter. For your safety, do not attempt to look through the eye if snow or ice covers the rocks. Watch for travelers on two wheels. Your canine protector should be kept on a leash. No water is available, so bring your own. Travel time from the parking coordinates to the door is about 30 minutes and the roundtrip is approximately 1.5 miles.
