This is a nice easy cache in the Llangwm area of Pembrokeshire. If you stick to the public footpaths you should find it easily but with a bit of searching. Public parking can be found near to the slipway or in the village of Llangwm.
The cache area may be reached by a gentle walk along the edge of the River Cleddau from the village of Llangwm, if the tide is not too high, or directly from Black Tar which may be reached by car from Llangwm.
The Trotting Pony cache is to be found in a delightful water way setting. A gentle walk along public foot paths and bridle ways will bring you to the cache.
The small village of Llangwm lies within or near to the Daugleddau ("Two Cleddaus") section of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with its superb river scenery and choice of riverside walks. The East & West Cleddaus known by many as The Secret Waterway is an area of natural beauty with wildlife and fishing. Llangwm is an attractive old fishing village built around an inlet which has a strong sporting tradition and overlooks the shoreline on the Cleddau River. There were once substantial oyster-beds here and herrings were netted from traditional black-tarred boats. Llangwm fisherwomen in their traditional costume were once a familiar sight on the county's roads, carrying their fish in panniers to sell in the towns. There is little fishing nowadays, but nearby Black Tar is popular with sailing and boating enthusiasts. The landing slip at Black Tar provides access to the river for small boat users at all states of the tide.
