Pioneer Cemetery: Ivy Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Rock Rabbit: This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines here.

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing via a log entry.

Whatever your intentions, please post a note here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.

Geocache Description:

This is the northern most cache of my Pioneer Cemetery Series. At this location you will be seeking a small cache, with little room for trade items.

IVY (aka Prescott) CEMETERY:
The cemetery is located about ½ mile west of the small town of Prescott in Walla Walla County. It was established by the B.F.Flathers family in honor of Ivia E. Flathers, who is buried here. The earliest burial that I could find was in 1875, a “Baby Flathers”. It has over 500 recorded burials. This cemetery is fairly well maintained, with mowed grass and pruned trees. There is a large entry arch at the highway, so it is easy to find where you enter the lane to the cemetery. This cemetery has several old, interesting headstones. Try to picture what this valley looked like back in the 1880s. A Pioneer farmers dream!

PIONEER CEMETERY SERIES: This is one in a series of caches hidden in or near old cemeteries. Some of the cemeteries have been abandoned, while others are still in use today. These cemeteries all have burials dating back to the 1880’s or before. As a “Daughter of the Pioneers of Washington” and a member of the “Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers”, I have a special interest in the history of our valley and the Pacific Northwest.

Please let me know if there are any problems with the cache. Thanks, RCH.
