The last time I visited this area, many years ago, it was beautiful
and a wonderful place to explore. It was a dense and clean mangrove
swamp with unpredictable tide lines and endless birdsong. The
ambience of the place was only broken by the infrequent trains
roaring over the 1 track bridge nearby.
My return visit to place this cache presented a much different
picture in present day. Today, public works has given people much
better access to the swamp area courtesy of metres and metres of
board walk but at what cost? The swamp is now infested with
garbage, the boards are in disrepair and what is intact is
vandalised with graffiti. Everywhere you look there is the evidence
that proves that you simply can't have a wetland of this nature
located in the middle of suburbia, and not have it suffer. Even the
trains are far more frequent because they have doubled the bridge
and the line now goes through to Campbelltown.
I wasn't going to place the cache here after all, but decided it
would be a lesson to all, of what happens to places such as this as
suburbia grows.
Search with great with care, wear thick gloves and watch your
footing.
Shame on the local residents and the council for letting this
place become so filthy and unhealthy. Well that's enough "panning"
of the place for me, you'll see what I mean when you get there.
