Geocache Description:

Pleasant stroll which takes cacher to the Golden Valley Nature Reserve in Wick near Bristol showing great views of Wick Quarry. Not suitable for pushchairs and should be completed in around 30 mins.

This will be the tenth year that Peregrine Falcons have nested in the active quarry at Wick. The steep rock faces make ideal nesting conditions for the bird of prey. A webcam has recently been attached to the rock face above the nest to view the birds more closely - more details available at www.peregrinewatch.info Peregrines are more closely associated with nesting on sea cliffs but with numbers increasing in the UK the birds have made new homes inland, in city centres and quarries. The birds are the largest resident falcon in the UK and are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Parking is freely available and it is possible to walk via the footpaths around the whole of the quarry. The easiest place however is probably N51 27.657 W002 25.336 which gives you a walk of about 0.2m through the Nature Reserve. Remember your binoculars and see if you can spot the webcam/nest on the far wall of the quarry. Then find the cache.
