Geocache Description:

Inspired by the scale model solar system at the Musuem of Science in Boston, this cache uses the main dome of the Naismith Hall of fame to be a scale model sun. The planet caches at the appropriate scale distance.

This is the first stop in the Western Massachusetts scale solar system. The main dome is about 125' across. Since the sun is about 860,000 miles across, this gives the scale solar system a scale of 140' = 1 million miles. This cache is a micro, with just enough room for a log sheet. Bring your own pencil/pen. At scale, the cache is hidden well within the corona of the sun, with an average temperature of 2 million degrees F! Better cool of with an ice cream around the corner at Cold Stone Creamery after finding the cache! By the way, the giant basketball on the spire is pretty close to Jupiter size in our scale... but way too close to the sun. Jupiter should be about 12.8 miles away. Just a note, the big silver dome seems to play tricks with GPS signals. As of 10/21/2006 the cache is moved to a slightly less muggle-prone area, but stealth and boldness still required.
