Geocache Description:

A Guzzle is “a small creek or channel going back up into a mudflat”. This cache is located on the guzzle that once led into Beaver River Harbour, but which has been blocked by tides and sand movement.

Beaver River, which was originally named Elsetcook, a Mi'kmaq word meaning "Flowing by High Banks", was used first by the First Nations who fished here in the summers, and then settled on by people from Yarmouth, who moved up the coast to find more land in the late 1700’s. Beaver River Harbour is the site where six Ships and seven Barques were built between 1863 and 1875. Parking for this cache could be to the North of the site, just before the bridge down at the beach in Beaver River, and if you look carefully you’ll see the remains of the old wharf where all the ships were built. You could also park at the Port Maitland Beach Park, which is south of the site, and a bit further walk.
A really adventurous hike would be to do all three caches in the area by beginning to the south, then walking the 2 plus miles of beach each way.
Cache is an ammo box and at replacement (original cache became lost) had Cache in Trash out bags and some kiddie swag.
Happy Geocaching!
