Geocache Description:

One of many caches along the Old National Road. This is a good one for beginners, but please watch the kids since parking is on the other side of the road and the traffic does not always obey the speed limits.

This cache is along the Old National Road that started out as a set of turnpike roads connecting Baltimore to Frederick and west to Cumberland. With an act of Congress the road was pushed out past Cumberland to Vandalia, Illinois.

Living in Frederick, I am aware of a number of the old stone mile markers that travelers used to measure their progress as they traveled this road. This one marks Mile 40 in an area locals call seven sisters. There were a series of small hills on the otherwise very straight section of road. I used to be very familiar with these hills when I was riding a 90cc Suzuki motorcycle to work in West Friendship! I am not sure if all seven sisters remain since Rt 70 was realigned here 20 years or so ago. We may have lost one or two of the smaller sisters. How many can you find?

This is a very simple cache, so no hint. Just find the marker and find the cache very nearby.

Starting this one out with Charlie the Horse travel bug. There used to be horses kept nearby, but I haven't seen them in a long time. :(

Good luck and check out the other Mile Marker caches soon to come.
