How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

WARNING: This cache is not for the faint of heart. It will require a minimum of an 8 mile/900 foot vertical hike (1,600 if you want to do all the caches in this park and see the vista). However you will be rewarded with fern trails along a babbling brook, challenging terrain and if you go to the vista a breathtaking view of the Cumberland valley.

To find the cache, locate the 150 foot walking bridge at the posted coordinates. Several of the floor planks are inscribed by scout troops that have added to the bridge. Find the plank by David Stockdale, it will have six unique numerical digits. Put those digits in numerical order 0-9 and assign each number a letter A-F then substitute them for the final cache coordinates.

e.g. 64 2 7 91 ==> A=1 B=2 C=4 D=6 E=7 F=9

A = __   B = __   C = __   D = __   E = __   F = __
G = F - D
H = E + C

Final: N40 1F.AGG W77 2C.BHE

Hint: The final is less than 2,000 feet from one of the additional waypoints.

NOTE: I highly recommend that you stop at the park office and get a hiking map of the trails. And to help you on your journey, I have included the trail intersections as additional waypoints. Also bring lots of water, a flashlight and extra batteries. Cell phone coverage is spotty at best in this forest so be prepared before you go in.

Additionally, there is no cost to camp in the forest. Try a night at the vista, having breakfast with a view of the Cumberland valley is quite an experience. For your own safety, please check in with the park office to let them know you will be camping in the forest. If they see an unregistered car in the parking lot for a few days they will come and find you.

Cache is located on state forest land. 250 square inches of
360 degree orange is required from October through January.

Exp: 31 July 2010
