Geocache Description:

This simple cache is located in Paramount Park's Natural Area, which is a wetland restoration project. The cache can be reached without disturbing any of the vegetation, especially if the clue is consulted. After finding the cache, you might like to continue to the end of the trail, where you'll find additional informational signs about the habitat and a closer view of the ponds.

The following project information is from the informational sign at the entrance to the wetland area: Littles Creek and the surrounding wetlands are part of the headwaters of Thornton Creek, an important salmon-bearing creek which flows into Lake Washington. The retention ponds in Paramount Park were created along the creek in 1998 to restore wetland function and to help prevent flooding. The ponds hold storm water that would otherwise rush into the already-full Thornton Creek system. As water detained here seeps into the soil, it recharges the ground water. Sediments and pollutants are filtered out. The clean water joins the main tributary, Thornton Creek, which is the largest watershed in Seattle and Shoreline. In the mean time, as the water is retained in Paramount Park, the ponds and wetlands provide plants and wildlife with natural habitat in which to thrive.
