Geocache Description:

This journey takes you to spectacular falls in Falls Village, CT.

This is a short walk from the parking area and a good place to view the Great Falls on the Housatonic River near the Iron Works Historic Site. The falls are the most impressive during the springtime floods or an upstream dam release. A wheel-chair friendly trail loop is nearby. This cache was placed to commemorate our 1000th cache find. Park: N41 57.820 W073 22.330. The area is open from 7:00AM to sundown. Please make sure the cache lid is closed tightly.

Warning: use caution approaching the overviews. The rushing water is very powerful even when the falls are small. Children may run up ahead to get a look for themselves. Don't leave children unattended. The rocks can become slippery and there are steep drop offs.

Soon I will be adding a memorial newspaper article that tells the story of Housatonic student Kaelan Paton who lost his life at these falls while saving a fellow classmate near this spot.
