Conklin Nature Trail / Farmington River Cache Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pofe: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

If you have any questions, please email me directly at Pofe@GeocachingAdmin.com . Please be sure to include the caches name and GC# or URL with your email.

NOTE: Do not reply to this email directly. The communication will not be received. To ensure a prompt response, please follow the method of contact described above.

Kind Regards,
Pofe

Geocache Description:

This cache begins at the Nancy Conklin Nature Trail. This is a fairly level crushed stone path that ambles along the Pequabuck River eventually meeting up with a dirt trail / road along the Farmington River. A nice area to walk a dog, bird watch, mountain bike, x-country ski, or jog. Trail may be somewhat mushy and caches may be in-accessible during times of heavy rain and flooding. Area should not be visited after sunset.

Part of the Farmington Land Trust, this land was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield Cowles. They purchased it from the Root family, who were evidently successors to colonial-era Cowleses. It adjoins land originally granted to Farmington’s first minister Roger Newton and later passed down through Hooker and Cowles families. The small home of one of Farmington’s early Italian [Lenolese] immigrants stands adjacent to the ancient bed of the Farmington Canal a few yards to the east. The Pequabuck River wraps around the northern boundary beneath the ample Georgian mansion of playwright Winchell Smith.
The trail head begins at N 41 43.031 W 072 50.450 where there is ample parking for about 6 - 8 cars. This hunt consists of two fairly well camouflaged micros tied with fishing line which lead to the final. Final cache container is small and can only hold a small log book, pencils and maybe a travel bug or two. Unless there is high water, all caches are easily accessible with only minor bushwacking required on micro# 2. Although it may be tempting to take a shortcut to micro# 2, please stick to the trail as it snakes along the scenic Pequabuck and Farmington Rivers. Overall hike is about 2.6 miles round trip and should take approximately 1.5 hours. Nice area with a fair amount of wildlife present. Enjoy!
