After many months of discussion, this event is
FINALLY going to take place. DeViDe has graciously agreed to share
his knowledge of GSAK
(Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) and GrandpaKim will be available to
offer any advice if needed. I, chili_tepin, plan to sit back and
learn from the masters.
For those that are new to geocaching, or new to
paperless caching, this training event should be very helpful!! I
think most 'advanced' cachers use GSAK as much as their GPSr.
Here are just a few of the items that may be
covered:
I have been told that the South Jordan Library is the first
library in Salt Lake County to offer a wireless internet
connection. I have asked permission to have at least one network
port active in the meeting room. I will bring a couple of 4 port
hubs and a few longer network cables for those that don't have
wireless. If you are bringing a laptop and don't have wireless,
please try to remember your own network cable. If you happen to
have a few extra cables and/or a hub, feel free to bring it as
well. If you are bringing a laptop, please make a note of it
below.
The library opens at 10:00am. I will be there early to set up
chairs, etc. Feel free to come early (I'm fat and could use the
help moving chairs). There is a 'reading time' scheduled in the
meeting room at 1:00pm. We have to be out before then. This gives
us a good two hours.
There are over 50 caches within three miles of the
South Jordan Library.
There are about 150 caches within 5 miles of the South Jordan
Library.
Fire Elemental has probably found all of them.
I will probably get to the area early and make my attempts at
finding a few before the library opens.
NO food or drink is allowed in the library meeting
room. After the event, maybe we could grab a bite to eat at The Pie
Pizza just north of the library. Cafe Rio and Panda Express are
right next door.
