My interest in comics started young. Seems my
Mum was worried about my reading ability: I didn't seem to
have much interest in reading books back then. So, to help
things along she put comics in the bottom of my sleeping back
when I went off to camp as a little guy. That first night I
would unroll my sleeping bag to see what stories my Mum had
packed for me. Plus, I was pretty popular with the other guys
who wanted to trade for my comics, or at least read them.
Other parents were dismayed at my Mum for buying me comics,
but it worked. It picqued my interest in reading. Hopefully I
can return the favour.
I collected most of my comics in the late 80's and early 90's. I
remember getting lost in the stories for hours. Like many kids, I
loved Wolverine
and the X-Men long
before the Hollywood movies came out. Didn't hurt Logan was a
Canuck! Putting this cache together got me digging around my long
boxes again. Great times, lots of good memories.
The cache is hidden in a trail system in Orleans, Ontario. The
trails are fairly popular with locals walking their dogs, mountain
bikers and others "marking trails". The difficulty rating on this
cache stems from some undulating paths through the forest. Careful
when it's wet out: the mud is slick!
Cache is traditional, standard cache, found at N 45° 27.440 W
075° 32.964. Depending on the time of year, GPS reception could
be good to fair. I took the readings in the late fall with minimal
leaf cover. Entry points to the trail system are: Entrance One: N
45° 27.502 W 075° 32.862 (closer to cache but no parking near), and
Entrance Two: N 45° 27.427 W 075° 32.663 (on-street parking
available, but a little longer walk through the forest.). If you
use Entrance Two, you might even want to walk in the direction of
Entrance one, as a direct line through the forest involves some
bushwacking.
The cache is in a Lock N Lock tupperware container. Contents of
the cache when placed includes:
Steps have been taken to protect the comics from moisture: all the
comics are covered in a plastic comic bag with a cardboard backing
board. I've placed a few extras in the boxes should you wish to use
them yourself. Please do your best to minimize moisture entering
the cache during your trades. Thanks.
I've included a waterproof camera for you to take a picture of
yourself or your crew. Just let me know when it's filled, so I can
develop your pretty faces.
So bring a comic, take a comic. Have fun with the comics, share
them with your little ones or enjoy them yourself.
