Slippage ...A Matter of Time Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

JollyJax: With much regret as I am living too far away to maintain the series, the game is now over. For those that wondered who Hem Slobbich was or rather is ... thats easy ... its me. The name is an anagram of my real name.

The series was inspired by a gravestone in Wood Eaton Churchyard bearing some Japanese characters and in memory of Richard Storey, Professor of Japanese Studies at Oxford University. The grave also remembers his wife Dorothy.

Geocache Description:

A series of caches in search of map to lead you to a stolen hoard ... The coordinates above are for the local prison car park but there is limited but off road parking when you find the start of the walk.

Its Only Matter of Time ....

Having been released from the place of custody just down the hill on Friday, I had little but a plastic Temporasack containing my possessions and a cheque for £43.00 as my release grant.  Buses don't take cheques and nor do taxis.  How far is the nearest town. Why don't they give us maps?  After three months of being a good boy because I couldn't be anything else, now I am free and able to walk again at least.

Let me begin at the beginning......

Slippage, that's a term that's used to mean leave port in a ship or to lose time.  I have certainly done that.  Some Slovenian or a Croatian scuffer caught me, red handed almost.  I hadn't hurt anyone and all I stole was a box from an empty house.  A box long forgotten by its true owners I thought and to whom the contents were precious, I understood.  I was paid well to fetch it but my benefactor never saw a return.  This investigator heard I was planning the heist and laid in wait for me in secret.  He wasn't interested in justice, I don't think, greed was the thing that drove him and still does. I felt him close to me as I left the scene and was able to quickly hide the stash before he closed in.  Upset that he hadn't caught me with the box he had me framed as a common thief and I served a spell for the crown.  Actually I served some and was given some on the tag that I am wearing now.  That is one of the reasons I am not looking for the box myself but hoping you will help me find it.  I cannot leave a 5 mile area and I have a curfew after dark.  I left some clues hidden it in boxes in some woods but I wont tell you here where to find them.  Instead I have devised a number of box locations some of which will give you clues to the final location and some that will give you information about the final stash.  Read everything carefully and you will have the rewards you deserve. I cant go get the map myself, as the guy that put me away is still watching me like a hawk and hoping I will lead him to the stash.

From my place of incarceration head SE to a lay-by not more than half a mile from the wall.  Look here for the four stages of life and name the first and the third only.  Leave the final letter of the third stage off and convert the others to numbers in the conventional way A = 1 B = 2. These numbers become ABC and DEF. Ignore the leading digit of any that equate to over 9.  What year was the woodland purchased? Answer = 19GH and what colour is the rarer of the hairstreaks found here? Select the first and fourth letter of this colour only and again convert to numbers which we will call JK

Walk on now to N51° [J+K] [B-C].AE[H-E]  W1° [D-F]A.EAH ... I sat here to rest and look back on my past few months.  How may logs? I sat on one of LM and I leaned against NP.

Wanting to put the casual stalker off I left a clue to the cache location at N51° 50.[L+M][M*N][L+L] W1° 05.[L+P][M*M][N*N] and it is here that you will find the coordinates of a micro that will lead you to the final cache and the symbol that you will need to locate the map.  In my rush to hide the box and evade pursuit all I remember of the location was a Oak tree on my left followed by an Rowan tree on the right...or was that the other way around? Here I turned East and paced about 15 strides and then scribbled the note you will find here.  I ran all the way to thesite and slammed the canister into its hidey hole in haste.  What can I say to describe the location for you? The undergrowth is denser on the way there and a large tree has fallen and its not far before I emerged from the woodland.  The final box is located beside the footpath and is well hidden. There just wasn't time to take accurate readings so the cache is within 10 paces of the coordinates you get.  A little bird said you would know if you had the right place ... Please return the disguise to the box as you find it and help me mask the trail.  I know I ran further South West before....... to be continued....
