U.S. Route 66 is affectionately called the "Mother Road." It
went from Chicago to Los Angeles. It was the subject of a TV show
and a popular song, "Get Your Kicks On Route 66." The highway has
been decommissioned and now, in Western Oklahoma, it is replaced by
Interstate 40. In a few places I-40 was built right over the old
road. However, in most places in Oklahoma you can still see the old
road. Let's go see it!!
Route 66 did not originally go past this location. It ran down
Frisco and turned south on 10th street about a mile east of here,
then followed Neptune Drive. A later alignment followed US 183
down, then went southwest to meet with Neptune Drive.
I am bringing you to this location to see the museum.
