If you are up to the challenge and like word
puzzles - this one is for you! The coordinates above are really
just to get you to the park - you won't find any caches around the
coordinates - but you may use the coordinates to help you figure
out the clue below.
I have been
enjoying puzzle caches around the area, but they are almost all
math puzzles. Not being a 'math-type' person, I designed a word
puzzle cache! To get the beginning coordinates, you must solve the
puzzle below. Please note that this puzzle is an easy one, and each
one gets a little harder. I would recommend giving yourself a
couple hours to do this cache challenge and bring along some
caching friends to help you out! I'd also bring along some food, as
you may get very hungry out there trying to figure out the clue
caches. Please be sure to rehide the caches very well and please do
NOT screw the lids of the clue caches on tightly. Leave them loose.
The hints inside are all laminated and won't get harmed if wet. The
final cache can be seen if it is not hidden well and will be
stolen, so stealth and concealment is a must!
FYI - Perhaps the most notable feature of Mammoth Park is its 96
foot high giant slide, which has made for many an unforgettable
summer outing for Westmoreland County youngsters. There is a scenic
overlook deck, featuring a ten mile panoramic view of the
countryside. Mammoth Park offers 14 pavilions and many recreational
and picnic opportunities. An historic battery of beehive coke ovens
has been restored and is available for viewing.
Portions of Mammoth Park
are open for hunting, and the lakefront is periodically closed
during the fall to allow for waterfowl hunting. Wear orange during
hunting season to be safe. Rest room facilities are available
throughout the park.
