Geocache Description:

It looks like there was only light rain last night. As of 6:50 this morning, the message says the park is Open, so the event is on.

CITO Event at the Glenn Ranch and Portola entrance to Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. Approved and in cooperation with Limestone Canyon & Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park.

Rain in the 3 days prior may cancel or postpone. Call 949/923-2245 the day of the event or check this listing. I'll update the page by 7 AM 12/3. The make-up rain day is December 10th.

Come help clean up Serrano Creek where it passes under Portola Parkway from 9 to 11 AM on December 3, 2005. This area has quite a bit of trash that will wash down the creek into the ocean. Let's get it before it gets there.

The cleanup location is within a few hundred feet of the parking area. There is little elevation change in a sandy semi-channelized creekbed. We will also move up along along the trails adjacent to the creekbed and continue up and down the creek if we have time.

Meet at the parking lot on the south side of Portola by Wahoos Fish Tacos, but park away from the restaurants so they can continue business while we clean up. The park staff will be providing trash bags and latex gloves. There will be a log to sign after you sign an Orange County Parks Adopt-A-Park form. (No signed form and your log will be deleted). The forms will be available the entire time. Stop by whenever you can. In your log post a list of some of the locations you went during the CITO so I can provide an map to the park of the area we helped clean up and post it on the site.

If you have a FRS two-way radio bring it along. We'll use channel 2 sub-channel 0.

After the event enjoy a lunch at Wahoos or one of the other restaurants in the same area. I'll see if any of them would be willing to give us a lunch discount. (If anyone has connections let me know, or would be willing to check on this for me.)

The staff has approved placing two new caches in the wilderness park that participants will get a first crack at after the event (at noon). I also plan to also make some new caches available along Serano Creek Trail.

Thanks to Bobbie Tumolo, Limestone Canyon Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park Park Ranger for helping set this event up and approving the new wilderness park caches.

New caches for this event:

Sorry, Wahoo's does not do food discounts, and I didn't get with them soon enough to get anything else from them.
