“INDIANA SPIRIT
QUEST”
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries
built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has
grown to over three hundred eighty caches hidden in thirty-eight
Indiana counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown
to twenty cacher teams, most of which are comprised of Dogs and
their Humans. Over 750 cacher teams have
logged over 8,900 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in
a single day (daylight hours only).

"Ghosts at Goshen"
Goshen Cemetery is in
Wayne Township, Wayne County just north of Richmond, Indiana on US
227. For the ghost hunters among you, this cemetery is said to have
more than its share. Shawdowlands web site claims, “numerous
signs of ghosts can be detected here. A lady in white stands over
one of the graves, and when approached she disappears. Footsteps in
the grass can be heard either following, or coming towards you.
Shadows and small white lights can be seen in the woods surrounding
the cemetery. The most frightening area is definitely the Northwest
corner of the cemetery underneath an Oak tree. This section
contains the graves of children. It's the darkest section of the
cemetery, and if you stand in the path right by these graves.
Something will sound like it's falling out of the tree, and will
hit the ground with a thud. There is never anything there. Other
oddities include a sudden temperature drop over some of the
graves.”
The land for the cemetery was
originally part of the Edward Bond farm. Ed donated the ground for
a cemetery and meeting house. The original chapel burnt and was
replaced with the present building. Upon his death in 1821, Edward
Bond was buried in the cemetery. Among the veterans buried within
these 20+ acres are: Joseph B. Bennett who enlisted in 1862 for
three years and ultimately fought in the 2nd battle of Bull Run,
Fredricksburg, Gaine’s Mill and Gettysburg where he was
wounded; Sgt. Harold Glunt who gave his life January 12, 1945 in
the Phillipines invasion off Luzon; James V. Kennedy, with the 60th
Infantry 9th Division who was killed in the Battle of St. Lo near
Normandy, France.
Also here, you will find the graves
of John Morrow (b. 9/18/1809, d. 3/17/1875), one of Wayne
County’s early teachers and some of the 41 people who
tragically lost their lives in the downtown Richmond explosion in
1968. See this virtual cache for a monument to those people

The cache is a small
container with the usual swag and a log. It is hidden away from
graves. Please return the cache exactly as you found
it.
As always, no ISQ searching after
dusk, and cache in, trash out.
