This cache has been placed within 25 feet of what we think is the most easterly old growth coastal redwood tree in the world. The tree is named after a Pacific Union College president, Malcolm Maxwell
The tree survived a fire around 1932 and has burns to prove it. The tree is approximately 8 feet across at the base and has some unique structural characteristics in its growth pattern. The tree is on Pacific Union College property which is open to public walks and runs. This property has many trails but none of them go directly to the tree. I would suggest you park at an open bend on Las Posadas Rd. You can get to the parking area by going east on Cold Springs Rd. and follow it until it becomes Las Posadas Rd. The coordinates for the parking area are 38.34.173 N 122.25.398 W
The cache is in a copper pipe and contains a logbook and pencil.
