Gayle's Trails - The Panama City Beach Greenway and Trails
System is now beginning to take shape.
Whether it is walking, biking, bird watching or simply enjoying
the natural beauty of northwest Florida, residents and visitors
alike will soon have the opportunity to be a part of some 20 miles
of greenways and trails across the island of Panama City Beach. For
the past three years, the City of Panama City Beach has been
working to plan and develop this system and in June construction
began on the trailhead located at Frank Brown Park.
The cache is near a stream that comes out of the woods. While
the area around the stream is lush and tropical looking, we would
not go in the water the source is the Beach Transfer
Station.
The trailhead beginning at the Children's Pond in the rear of
Frank Brown Park will feature a paved trail with picnic tables and
areas, landscaping for shade, bike and vehicle parking areas,
restrooms, and a kiosk and small pavilion with trail information
and directions. The first phase of the project is now
complete and a paved trail extends northward to the east west
trail that traverses Panama City Beach. Starting from the trailhead
in Frank Brown Park will allow travel south to the Gulf and through
Aaron Bessant Park, east to the St. Andrews State Park, west to
Camp Helen State Park and Walton County, and/or north to Pine Log
Forest. The trails will also permit walking and biking to a
proposed City nature park located between Highway 79 and Walton
County. Areas of the trail and the nature park are designated for
horseback riding as well.
