Geocache Description:

This cache offers spectacular views of the Borrowdale Valley and Derwentwater.

PLEASE DO NOT DAMAGE THE NEARBY MOSSES WHILE SEARCHING FOR/RE-HIDING THE CACHE.

Often overlooked in the rush to get down Borrowdale, Castlehead has (in my opinion) one of the best views in the Lake District. A short 20 - 30 min walk from the centre of Keswick, Castlehead is a low hill set to the left of Borrowdale Rd just past the roundabout. The closest car park is at the Theatre by the Lake. Note that the cache is set well back from the front of Castlehead which falls away steeply in places. Please be careful when wandering around on the summit, the rocks can be slippery at any time of year. The summit has a platform which gives details of all the peaks visible from the top, it also affords a view of St Herbert's Island... There is a lot of thick tree cover on the way up which can make the GPS signal unreliable. Once you are at the top the trees are thinner and the signal will improve. G:UK cache rating
