Laura Furnace Creek cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

katmai: Thanks to all the geocachers who found my Dad’s geocache at Laura Furnace Creek. My Dad loved to rock hound here. Since he has passed and I live too far away to maintain it, I am placing it on the archived list. It was good to find it one last time with Jeannie, a dear family friend.

Geocache Description:

From hwy 68-80 go 8.7 miles south on the "Trace", turn east on road 165 by the Bethlehem Church sign. Park just East of black and yellow culvert marker N36 42.261 W088 00.180

Why cropped areas in the forest 50 years after creation of the LBL? Wildlife depend on a certain amount of open area in order to thrive. Nearby farmers lease these fields. A portion of the crop is often left for use by wildlife. For a creekbed adventure look for walnut to apple-sized geodes. They have a bumpy cauliflower-like outer surface. When cracked open geodes may show sparkling quartz crystals. Cache is army ammo can.
