Geocache Description:

This is a nice Lake...

This is a great place for trabel bugs... This could be a hub for any that need to go out of town/State. If you are a TB fan please bookmark and help them on their way... Thanks

This lake is near the freeway but access is on California Circle, no access from the freeway! Best way to get to this is from Dixon Landing Road turn onto California Circle and just after the bridge (and I mean just after the bridge) Make a right into a mostly hidden driveway. 37° 27.21540 by -121° 55.27098 is the start of the drive way.. Hint if you miss it, enter the freeway and then take the right under the bridge it will circle you back and you can cross over Dixon landing again. Now there are two parking spaces roughly at 37° 27.21210 by -121° 55.29156. Once here proceed to the cache... If you do not park here your hike will be long!!! If you park here this is a very kid friendly site. And a great place to stop Travel Bugs.

OK now on to the Milpitas History Lesson…

This area like most of Milpitas was once farm land… However, from this point East was once the hazardous dumping ground for the Ford plant. When they wanted to build houses and businesses here and it cost big time dollars and a few years. But the job was done… This is also a hint why the Great Mall is a mall and not houses or a business complex… The ground there was so contaminated that one company that was going to reconfigure the land to a business park found out the cost to clean up the soil and changed their minds.

The opposite side of 880 and Dixon Landing from here is also a significant spot in Milpitas. This is where Dixon Landing Rd got its name. A 49er, Mathew Dixon, built rough docks for flat bottomed scows and two masted schooners to load hay, and grain from the Milpitas area to ship to San Francisco and other ports. So now you know where Dixon Landing got its name.

One final tidbit… In the late 70’s my Father and older Brother put an inflatable raft into the Berryessa creek near here and rowed upstream (?) to just past Hidden lake where N. Milpitas Blvd Crosses Berryessa creek… about ½ way between Hiding at hidden lake and Bridge over Berryessa.
