BACKGROUND:
Johnny Thunder released his infectious Loop De
Loop (based on a children's song titled Looby Loo)
in 1963, and it soon reached #4 on the Billboard Chart. This was
the only Top 40 hit for Thunder (the nom de plume of
Floridian Gil Hamilton), who also briefly performed with The
Drifters. According to SongFacts, during the recording
session Thunder's brother-in-law held up the lyrics so that Thunder
could read them while playing drums.
THE CACHE:
You'll be visiting an under-utilized (at least by cachers)
section of Memorial Park. The park, of course, lies just off
Houston's Loop 610. Appropriately enough, within the park you'll
find Memorial Loop Drive, where you'll encounter hundreds of
joggers and walkers (although bikers are not allowed on the trails
in this section of park). Moreover, once you approach the cache
site you'll discover a smaller loop within the loop within the
loop.
Enjoy the loopiness of the area!
