På denna plats låg fram till 1847 Hovmantorps kyrka. Man vet inte
när kyrkan byggdes, men man tror att den är från medeltidens första
århundrade. Kyrkan var byggd av trä och utanför kyrkogården hade
klockstapeln sin plats.
När jätten Buse, som bodde i närheten, fick höra att man byggde en
kyrka, blev han rasande och försökte riva ner allt. Men människorna
rökte ut jätten och ur hans kula. Jätten tog ett skutt över sjön
till berget Abbakuse och där bor han än idag!
I kyrkogårdsmuren finns en märklig stenflisa. Det sägs att den
hittades i en likkista, som en ung pojke skulle begravas i. Pojken
hade tvingats fly undan rättvisan. För att rädda honom fick han
låtsas vara sjuk och ryktet spreds att han var död. Men han
försvann och stenen las i kistan i han ställe.
Gömman är en 0,2 l plastburk som innehåller loggbok, penna och
några bytesvaror.
On this place Hovmantorp's church was situated until 1847.
Nobody knows when the church was built , but presumably in the
first centuries of the Middle Ages. The church was made of wood and
the bell-tower was placed outside the churchyard.
When the giant Buse, who lived nearby, heard of the building he
became furious and tried to destroy everything. But the people
tried to smoke him out of his cave. The giant took a leap over the
lake to the mountain of Abbakuse and that is where he still
lives!
In the wall of the churchyard there is a peculiar stone. The tale
is that is was found in a coffin, that a young boy was supposed to
be burried in. The boy had been forced to escape justice. To be
able to save his life he pretended to fall ill and a rumour was
spread that he had died. But he disappeared and the stone was
placed in the coffin.
