Roll on Big River Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Rubacava: This cache is now being compromised too often. If I "fix" it, it gets compromised within a very short time. I think someone is checking it regularly and then dumping out the contents and taking them. Who know why. Any way, I can't maintain it any more.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located near the Santa Maria Multipurpose Trail that goes along the levee of the west side of the Santa Maria River. Its an easy hike although not wheel chair accessible.

This cache is hidden near the Santa Maria Multipurpose Trail which goes along the west side of the Santa Maria River. You can walk the trail from Suey Crossing all the way north to Acacia Street. There are many access points along East Seaward Drive south of the freeway and along Poplar St. north of the freeway as well as one at Suey Crossing. You can figure out the best access point. This levee was built in the 1950's to prevent the river from flooding Santa Maria, which used to happen on a regular basis. The river doesn't have water most of the year, since it is dammed at Twitchell Reservoir. The water is released during the summer to maintain groundwater in the Santa Maria Valley

While you're walking, you can look across the river at some beautiful cliffs on the other side. You won't have to go down into the river area on the east side of the levee to access this cache.
