Cache is in a Waverly city park.
This park is located across the street from the last home of Pike County entrepreneur James Emmitt (d. 1893). Look for the large brick Victorian mansion on the opposite corner.
According to local legends, there was a tunnel from the mansion to the old Catholic church farther down Walnut Street that was used to hide runaway slaves on their bid for freedom in Canada.
Emmitt's hotel, the Emmitt House, located nearby on Emmitt Avenue, was built in part by Madison Hemmings, illegitimate son of Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Hemmings.
It is an interesting side note that Emmitt was once sued by a black man, Tucker Isaacs, for denying him lodging at the Emmitt House. Mr. Isaacs sued for the sum of $100, mainly to test the new civil rights laws of Ohio. He was awarded only $5, but it was considered a victory of principle.
Please be careful replacing the container. It is very small and easy to lose in the grass.
