Geocache Description:

This Micro cache is situated on the edge of Corsham Regis, Wiltshire, within sight of St Bartholomew's Church, Corsham Court and the lake within Corsham Park. It is only a micro, so no swaps for the children, sorry. However they may be rewarded for their walk by feeding the pair of Swans with their six cygnets, plus the moorhens, geese and ducks instead. So it is essential that you remember to take some stale bread or biscuits with you. The microcache is the usual 35mm film canister.

This cache is quite straight forward, but can only be reached by walking through the park. There is parking all around Corsham, but suggested parking is at N51° 26.019 W002° 10.995, which is really intended for the use of visitors to the Court or St Bartholomew's church, apart from Sunday's a lot of people who walk the park use it though. The Court and Park were designed and planned by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, John Nash and Humphrey Repton. Capability designed the 13 acre lake but his pupil Humphrey Repton actually carried out the work some 35 years later. The ruin near the car park was designed by John Nash and built as a folly, simply to prevent the people in the big house (Corsham Court) having to look upon the poor houses in the High Street! Corsham Court was originally Corsham House and the Royal Manor as far back as the Saxon Times. It has more recently been the home of the Methuen family who have lived in the house now for eight generations. On the opposite side of the lake from the cache along the marked footpath a bridge may be found which is covered with initials and dates. The majority of these were carved by soldiers from WW1 who were cared for in Corsham Town Hall, which was a convalescence hospital for the injured from the trenches. The challenge for the soldiers was to be able to walk from the hospital to the bridge, carve their initials and then walk back to the hospital unaided. Why they did this is not quite understood, because if they managed the challenge successfully they were then deemed fit enough to return once more to Flanders Fields! This Footpath incidentally takes you to another cache 'Corsham Graffiti'.
There is such a lot to see around Corsham, just hope that you enjoy the walk, the views and the abundance of historical and interesting sites all within easy walking distance of the car park. This cache is perfectly suitable for buggies, there are also two gates provided for wheelchairs to get through as well. Lovely for walking the dog, although be sure to keep them under control if the sheep are in the park. Super also for the children to have a run about, kick a ball, or fly a kite in. The usual warning of 'Watching out for Muggles' and please hide well again after finding, thank you and 'Happy Hunting'.
