Totally Tubular Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Combers: I hate to say it - but I'm going to have to archive this one. Went out to do some long needed maintenance and was amazed at the number of trees that were down since I placed it - only found 3 of the 5 tubes - the most critical one which pointed at the last cache location was MIA which would make for a challenging find. It also looks like the starting tube was nearly 100 feet away from the starting location given due to older GPS technology. Anyway, didn't have the patience to replace the tubes, and question whether they should be placed on live trees anyway. Will return sometime when it's drier and remove the remaining tubes - thanks to everyone who posted notes of appreciation for this cache - I certainly had fun building it and it has spawned lots of other ideas ... like Totally "laser pointer" Tubular [:D]

Geocache Description:

You don't need a surfboard to get Totally Tubular in the forests of Spencer Butte.

Totally Tubular is a puzzle cache that requires a keen eye, read on and see why!

Scattered along the Amazon Headwaters Trail near Spencer Butte are a number of camouflaged tubes. Each tube is attached to a tree, looking through the tube focuses on another tree further down the trail. That tree also hides a tube, pointing to the next tree. Keep looking and hiking from tree to tree until the final tube that points to the cache. Total hike from first tube to cache is under a quarter-mile.

Please ensure the tubes are camouflaged well, as some are quite prominent if you know what you are looking for! Moss is the best for breaking up the outlines because, gee whiz, it grows over all the trees!

The coordinates are for the starting point of the puzzle, not the final cache location. You should be following a gradual uphill path.

I expect that over time the tubes will become homes to a variety of forest critters such as spider, slugs, and bugs ... so find a small straight stick early and do some poking! Some tubes may also be too high for small children.

Original cache content should be fun, there's a grab-bag of goodies including a laser pointer, travel bug, calculator, key rings, mini cache container, hypo-lube, etc.

Parking is best at N43 59.694 W123 04.848 - cache is about 0.35 miles from there.
