Crop Failure
The town is named after a crop failure. That could have been a
portent of how things came to be around here. When the sodbusters
first started their agricultural enterprises someone decided that
prunes would do well here. They cleared the land, got the trees or
seeds, planted and for whatever reason, the crop failed. The next
logical thing to do… name the town after the failed crop. Well, the
crop may have failed but the town didn’t.
Legal Town Name
The name on the town’s birth certificate is legally, Prunedale.
Even my spelling checker doesn’t respect the name. It wants to make
it “Pruned Ale” which might not be so bad either. ...I'm not
touching that next line.
Around here you won’t find prunes or prune trees or plums, which
I believe are the source of prunes. You won’t even find Pruned Ale.
What you will find are the greatest people in California. Welcome
to Prunetucky.
Location
The cache is located in Manzanita Park in Prunedale. The cache
location is well off the beaten path in a small box canyon. The
park gates are open only during a scheduled event. Even though the
gates are closed the park is still open to hikers, bikers, and
horses during posted hours. You just can't drive up the hill and
park. Don’t ask me. Remember, the town was named after a crop
failure.
Look for a highly camouflaged cylindrical can.
