The Elusive 80 Acres Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

frisbee'r: ====================================

No Fort Lewis signs marking the property when I stopped by. A load of timber for permitted firewood cutting is now in the parking lot. Once the trees are gone, the signs may return. After nearly 10 years, I've decided to remove the cache and archive. It had a good run.

Thanks

Geocache Description:

The owner of this most beautiful timbered 80 acre parcel is the Department of Natural Resources. The tax parcel # is 11736140000 obtained by the Thurston County Auditor. One can only imagine why the DNR would spare this segment of forest from being logged. Thank goodness it has been set aside so that cachers can enjoy it, at least for now.

It’s important to know the access off the Rainier road. Please reduce your speed as you get close because it is about the width of a double driveway. The edge of the asphalt has a bit of a drop off so please take it slow. Please be cautious of the traffic when you reenter the highway. There is limited view from both directions and traction may be an issue off the gravel road.

Please DO NOT use the access road to your LEFT as it enters military property and is signed. As you begin your hike at the old road marked by stumps, be sure to stay to the right as Ft. Lewis has the forest boundry signed.

I moved the cache from the original coordinates to keep access easy although you may get wet from the moisture hanging on the grass along the trail.

The final is a 50 cal. ammo box.
